Facilities

The homes generally have two lounges, one serves as a quiet room and a dining room on the ground floor.

The bedrooms on the first floor can also be accessed via the stair lift and/or lift which is fitted for the service users who find it difficult to walk up the stairs.

All rooms are equipped with washing facilities as well as toilets and bathrooms on each floor. The service users are encouraged to bring their own furniture of their choice and pictures, so that they feel more at home in their new surroundings.

The home offers service user’s a person-centred (which is synonymous with quality care) care package, suited specifically for their individual needs. The care is focused on the service user’s, promoting their independence and autonomy; involves services that are reliable, flexible and chosen by the service users; and is offered by carers working in a collaborative/team philosophy with the service user’s. All our homes have a key worker system that enables the staff to develop a close relationship with each service users’ and awareness of each individual’s needs, behaviour and past history. This allows them to enhance the level of care they provide for the service users. The care plans are outcome-based rather than task-based. A typical care plan generally contains the following outcomes:

  • To respect individual wishes.
  • To remain mobile as before.
  • To remain continent as before.
  • Encourage self-help.
  • Promote dignity, independence, choice and control. Offer them a range of choices. Promote their dignity by respecting their wishes, privacy and confidentiality. Allow them to be in control of their affairs.
  • Bathing and hygiene: Allow bathing an enjoyable, relaxing and stress-free activity.
  • Dressing: Make dressing an enjoyable shared activity.
  • Engage service users’ in daily activities such as gardening and exercise.

Meals:
Breakfast is served in the service user’s room or in the dining room, if preferred. The menus are created with input from the service users, enabling them to choose the dishes they would like to eat. The menus are as varied as possible. The evening meals are at the request of the service users.

Health:
All the service users in the homes are registered with the local GP who attends the home. Choices of two local GP’s are available to the service users. The chiropodist, district nurse, optician and dentist’s services are available when required; the homes also have a hairdresser who visits fortnightly to attend to the service users’ needs.

Activities:
The homes have a varied choice of activities available for the service user’s, to stimulate their minds and exercise their bodies. An entertainer visits on a fortnightly basis encouraging the service users to sing along and dance. Social events such as Christmas Pantomimes are held yearly and the family members of the service users are encouraged to come and participate in the celebrations. Largely attended birthday parties as well as social events take place regularly in our Homes in order to promote socialising and stimulation for service users.
